Hello!

December 21st, 2007 at 11:13 pm

I'd imagine that I'm somewhere around the billionth person to cast a puny "hello!" out into the vast abyss of the internet. Judging by the other blogs on Saving Advice that I've read, however, I'd imagine that several helpful, intelligent, and kind people will stumble by here before long.

As you can see by reading my bio, I am 22 years old. I just finished my first semester teaching high school English in south-eastern Kentucky, and so far I have had a blast with it. The kids are great, and being not much more than a kid myself, I really enjoy what I do.

I am very passionate about literature and language. That being said, I don't fall within the typical mold of literary/humanist types. I am a fiscal Republican. I believe in the free market. I believe that competition ultimately is good for everyone.

My career has nothing directly to do with managing money. In fact, I never even considered a career in banking, finance, or business; however, I absolutely love to manage my own finances. I am more frugal than most, but I am not an extreme penny-pincher. I like to buy things for my fiancee. I love going out with my friends and having a few drinks. I LOVE Wal-Mart! I feel that I have a healthy respect for where money comes from and what it does for us.

When I stumbled across this web site, I knew that it was a place that I would enjoy frequenting. After reading several blogs and seeing the positive, encouraging environment in place here, I hope to become a part of that. Please drop me a line. I'd love to read your blog, have you read mine, and hopefully, we can all help each other on the road to financial freedom.

Welcome (thanks for reading my blog). My grammer is terrible so if I make a mistake please feel free to correct.

You are the first person I know to say that they have had a blast teaching HS students; glad you had a great semester

I can tell you these guys on this site are great; I probably would not be where I am financially if I had not found this site

Good luck with all your goals and I look forward to reading about your success Smile PS I hate Wal Mart, I know I could save a lot but the customer service there is terrible

Hello and welcome. One of the things I like about these blogs is the sprinkling of internationals. Southeastern Kentucky seems like another world to me, so mind my almost wants to put you in that category. Smile I'm from your neighboring state of Tennessee originally, but now live in the Missouri city with the big arch at its front door.

Welcome! I saw your question about student loans on Amber's blog. Money magazine has an article in the December issue called "How the B.A. Got Cheaper" and it includes information on how some teachers are eligible for partial loan forgiveness. I also recall reading something (perhaps in the WSJ?) about the "National Defense Education Act" which may be the same thing. You may already be aware of all of this, but if not you may want to do some Googling.

Welcome! I hope I'm not reinterating something you wrote about on another blog, but I haven't caught up yet. I ditto Scfr's suggestion of student loan forgiveness for teachers. Of course, we aren't in your state, but DIL got some of hers forgiven when she started teaching. Something was also involved with not consolidating those eligible either. Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Even you are indeed the billionth voice, it is still no less than the first 999,999,999 voices. Big Grin You'll also find that many of us have nothing to do with financial industry either. Most here are regular folks that are just trying to get through life the best they can, and I am no exception.

    So, welcome aboard. Smile

    Welcome.
I'm a little curious - what does "fiscal republican" mean under current administration?
